Contact Clarifiers at THE Monsanto Water Treatment Plant
Northeast Alabama Water, Sewer & Fire Protection District first took over the water treatment facility at the Old Monsanto Industrial Plant located on the Tennessee River in 1997. At that time a 2 MGD packaged water treatment plant was installed. This project is the first of three phases to upgrade the plant to meet the ever-changing regulations from the EPA. This project consisted of the construction of a Contact Clarifier to pretreat the raw water prior to filtration. The clarifiers are 50 feet square, have a depth of approximately 20 feet, and a maximum capacity of 4000 gallons per minute. The project has been completed and the total construction cost was $2.7 million and is producing a high quality effluent before the water is filtered.
